Be true to yourself: What natural cosmetics mean and what matters to UND GRETEL

Be true to yourself: Was Naturkosmetik bedeutet und worauf es UND GRETEL ankommt

Your beauty routine for a glamorous evening, whether it's a date night, a dinner party, or a visit to the theater, is important for making you feel beautiful and radiant. For you, that means using only natural products to care for your body? Your face cream, body lotion, hand cream, and face mask—everything is made of the finest natural cosmetics? But what about your fluttering eyelashes and your red lips?

Many of us have switched to high-quality natural cosmetics in recent years, but when it comes to our makeup, we often make lazy compromises. Sure, it's important to you that your mascara lasts and that you don't leave the cinema looking like a panda bear, just as it's important that your lipstick stays on your lips after a movie-worthy kiss. For intense colors and lasting hold, you therefore reach for products that give you confidence. However, this often comes at the expense of your skincare principles, as natural cosmetics rarely guarantee color intensity and longevity . We'll free you from the eternal either/or! Here you'll learn how to stay true to your natural beauty approach and what to look for in natural cosmetics.

Questioning instead of accepting – the UND GRETEL motto

We know the dilemma too: We want makeup with natural ingredients that simultaneously meets the highest standards in terms of color intensity and longevity. We decided that the two don't have to be mutually exclusive. This is precisely what inspired UND GRETEL in the first place. Christina Roth, UND GRETEL co-founder, is a renowned makeup artist with over 20 years of professional experience. As a makeup artist for Hollywood stars and fashion campaigns, she repeatedly encountered this dilemma: makeup must offer perfect longevity, reflect color trends, and also have a natural, nourishing effect.

Together with the other founder, brand expert Stephanie Dettmann, the UND GRETEL product line was developed over five years with a simple goal: to capture nature's most beautiful and diverse colors, transform them into luxurious formulas and certified textures, and use raw materials and ingredients that only nature can offer. No synthetic colors or preservatives, no parabens , no mineral oils , no aluminum , no silicones . High-end makeup and natural cosmetics combined – without compromise .

NO BAD STUFF – the UND GRETEL philosophy

We only use selected, high-quality ingredients that are grown ethically and sustainably. This means that we completely avoid synthetic ingredients, microplastics , parabens , silicones , mineral oils , and aluminum . We also only use naturally occurring pigments in our colors. We regularly test the quality and colors of every new product batch, but never on animals. We conduct all tests on ourselves, our team, our friends, and our family. From avocado oil and chamomile extract to clary sage distillate, all of our ingredients have their nourishing, healing, and balancing origins in nature.
This means we comply with the BDIH and Cosmo guidelines and can therefore call ourselves 100% certified natural cosmetics. There's a lot of information on the topic of "clean beauty," but to be sure that the cosmetics are truly 100% natural, it's best to always check whether the brand is certified.

Natural cosmetics and sustainability belong together at UND GRETEL

All our ingredients come from "wild harvesting," meaning the plants have grown naturally. Some of our ingredients are certified organic. You can find out which ingredients these are on our packaging: All ingredients marked with an asterisk come from an organic farm. To avoid long transport routes, we produce all UND GRETEL products in Germany and Italy. We maintain long-standing and intensive relationships with our producers and develop our products through co-creation. For us, sharing ideas, regular feedback, and continuous development are part of sustainable production.

Each product was individually developed in a painstaking, lengthy process, repeatedly improved, and ultimately perfected. The high functionality of our products and our deliberately reduced-to-essential range are entirely in the Bauhaus tradition. Even the UND GRETEL packaging is inspired by Constructivism and is sustainably oriented. The packaging of our exquisite cosmetic products draws on classic and familiar shapes and is made from sustainable materials such as metal, cardboard, and porcelain.

Co-creation and open communication

Right from the start, when UND GRETEL consisted solely of Christina and her idea, she shared her thoughts with many people and spoke openly about her vision. Open communication and unafraid of perceived competition helped her meet her business partner Stephanie Dettmann and find the name UND GRETEL and producers. Co-creation is an essential value that supports UND GRETEL in building a sustainable brand. We firmly believe that just as fairy tales were passed down in the past, stories of collaboration and natural beauty are spreading today. We believe that natural decorative cosmetics have nothing to do with sacrifice or compromise .

We're all at our most beautiful when we feel healthy and comfortable in our own skin and are true to ourselves – whether on date night, at a dinner party, or at home on the couch. We hope you enjoyed this insight into UND GRETEL's values and that from now on, you'll find it easier to orient yourself when you take a look at the ingredients in cosmetic packaging when shopping.
