Concealer is THE beauty tool no woman can live without. The phrase "Coffee & Concealer" went viral for a reason. When we wake up in the morning with dark circles under our eyes, concealer is our savior—the same applies to pimples and other blemishes.
'Conceal' – literally 'to cover' or 'to conceal' – is a beauty tool that comes into play wherever we want to adjust our facial skin to our own complexion. Concealer makes your complexion glow and gives fatigue and redness no chance!
But how exactly do I find the right color? And, above all, how and for what purposes can I use concealer? We've compiled the following six tips to answer these questions.
No.1 Hit the right nuance
Finding the right shade, especially when it comes to concealer, can sometimes be difficult. We distinguish between shades that match your complexion and therefore blend in almost seamlessly with your skin tone. And shades that can be used like a color corrector to balance out redness or dark circles.
When choosing a shade to balance your complexion, conceal wrinkles, or as a highlighter, the undertones are very important. If these don't harmonize, the concealer can quickly appear dull or simply stand out too much.
Yellowish undertones are therefore more suitable for warmer skin types, while pink shades are most flattering for cooler skin types.
The skin around your collarbone is a better place to test a new concealer shade than directly on your face. This is because the skin around your collarbone most accurately reflects your skin tone. Makeup and skincare products often distort the skin tone on your face somewhat.
No.2 When there is shadow, there will be light
Or perhaps a better title for this section would be: How to boost dark circles. But the title says it all – it's about balancing the dark areas with color and adding a touch of brightness.
As a general rule, a concealer for dark circles under the eyes can be one or two shades lighter than your foundation. The light pigments balance out the dark shadows, creating a fresh and rested look.
The best way to conceal dark circles is with a triangular shape. You can create a gentle lifting effect and a more awake look by applying the concealer from the inner corner of the eye, down to the cheek, and then back up to the outer corner. Thank us later. The natural color pigments can be layered on top of each other, allowing you to determine the intensity of the coverage – anything from light to strong is possible.
Important: It's best not to apply setting powder, including our Translucent Compact Powder ILGE, over the concealer to set under the eyes. This would emphasize and highlight wrinkles. TUNKAL 's silky texture was developed specifically for the eyes – for a naturally fresh finish.
No.3 Cover redness and blemishes
To cover blemishes or veins on your face , choose a concealer that matches your skin tone. Otherwise, you'll unintentionally draw attention to the areas you want to conceal.
Important to know: Redness is intensified by red or pink pigments. Shades with a proportion of green pigments work better in this case. Then apply a color that matches your skin tone to the redness, let it dry, and gently pat in.
For more coverage, simply apply another layer. Then, blend the edges lightly with your finger.
If your blemishes are a bit oilier than the rest of your skin, you can mattify the area beforehand with ILGE Translucent Setting Powder. And to ensure your overall concealment of blemishes lasts all day, apply a thin layer of ILGE to the area as a finishing touch.
No.4 Concealer – over or under foundation?
It's a bit like the question of the chicken or the egg—which comes first? When it comes to concealer, there's no right or wrong. In fact, both are correct.
The general rule is: foundation first . Applying foundation would remove the concealer previously applied. TUNKAL Concealer also contains light-reflecting pigments that create a fresh complexion. We don't want to cover them up with makeup.
The exception to the rule: If you use a powder foundation , always apply concealer first. Applying it over powder foundation could cause streaks or a slightly cakey appearance.
No.5 concealer as a highlighter
Concealer as highlighter? TUNKAL can do it too!
The best places to use TUNKAL as a highlighter : Under your brow bone, on your cheekbones, above the bridge of your nose, the line on the bridge of your nose, the middle of your chin, the areas to the left and right of your nostrils, the nasolabial fold and not to forget, the cupid's bow.
To do this, apply the concealer in a line and gently pat it in with your fingertip. You'll see how these tricks will give your face more shape.
No.6 Concealer as Wellness
TUNKAL Concealer contains only the best of nature. It's a bit like wellness for your skin. TUNKAL also contains slightly cooling and soothing ingredients like chamomile extract and clary sage . Avocado oil not only replenishes lipids but also supplies the skin with vitamins A and E. Bad stuff?
And last but not least, we'd like to point out that conventional cosmetic concealers often contain harmful substances. Some of them are even quite frightening, like arsenic, the neurotoxin. If you'd like to learn more about this, you can read this Öko-Test article , published in December 2020.
