Your Make-Up Shopping Guide

Dein Make-Up Shopping Guide

How can we shop more consciously?

One of the biggest hurdles when it comes to making more conscious purchasing decisions is having the time to research brands, ingredients, and production practices—and when it comes to natural beauty, finding products that support it without causing lasting damage. Here are our tips for more conscious makeup shopping.

No.1: Can't see the forest for the trees...

Natural or green cosmetics are no longer just found in select organic stores and dusty health food stores, but have reached the mainstream – and on a massive scale. The market for organic and natural cosmetics is recording record figures: The global market for natural cosmetics is expected to reach a volume of 19 billion euros by 2024 – so it's no wonder that many brands are committed to all things green.

Given this oversupply, it's understandable that sustainable shopping is a huge challenge, especially today. Whether you're shopping at a drugstore or in various online shops, the sheer number of products labeled as clean, green, natural, and non-toxic can be dizzying and confusing.

Another challenge is "greenwashing." Since terms like "plant cosmetics," "natural cosmetics," " natural cosmetics ," "organic cosmetics," and similar terms are not legally protected in Germany, we often overlook the harmful substances (THE BAD STUFF) hidden in one product or another. With good marketing and customized packaging design, many products can quickly create the impression that they are natural cosmetics.

No. 2: The time factor

Whether it's placing a quick online order in the evening or a quick trip to the drugstore after work, our fast-paced lives often leave us with little time to delve into the individual ingredients or cosmetic brands in detail, and we're overwhelmed by the flood of information that greets us in small print on packaging.
