Skin-loving Eye Pencil

The best non-toxic eyeliner? Grab a HOLT!
A frequently asked question is: Does a natural cosmetics eyeliner do anything different than a conventionally produced one? The simple answer: In terms of performance, HOLT is impressive in every shade. And if "different" also means "better," HOLT is a perfect choice anyway. Because only certified ingredients reach the sensitive eye. This natural cosmetics eyeliner is carved from the finest wood—hence its Middle High German name—and is mostly vegan and multi-use, ideal wherever precise eyeliner, special effects, or dramatic smoky eyes are needed.
All seven HOLT versions are eyeliner and kohl in one – plus: the metallic shades even cut a beautiful figure as an accent on the cupid's bow. Each kohl pencil guarantees either a clean line or can be smoothly blended as desired, depending on the look you want. The color result: always rich, of course. You can use the soft pencil tip to line the inner eye or waterline and apply the matte colors to the lash line as a defined, natural-looking eyeliner. The shade IVORY is also ideal as an eye opener in the inner corner of the eye and for modeling makeup on the eyelid and under the brow bone to visually emphasize the eye even more. IVORY is primarily used on the waterline. This approach follows the light-shadow principle: what is outlined with dark kohl is drawn deeper and sharper, but also appears smaller and more framed. What is outlined with light on the eye optically opens up the look.
Is HOLT a smudge-proof eyeliner? This is also a common question, and the answer is a resounding yes and no. Like all UND GRETEL makeup, HOLT's shades are highly pigmented and boast excellent coverage and long-lasting wear. The community is unanimous on this point: HOLT is a kohl that doesn't smudge, and its eyeliner stays perfectly in place (especially with primer underneath). Of course, its texture is flexible enough to allow HOLT to be gently blended with a makeup brush. This is especially useful for older eyes, where graphic eyeliner can quickly look harsh and unflattering. For a delicate contour, apply the pencil flatly along the lower and upper lash line and smudge the color lightly with your finger.
Natural cosmetics Kajal: As old as beauty
The history of black kohl, like that of decorative cosmetics in general, began a long, long time ago. Its use has been recorded ever since civilizations flourished in the Middle East. The strikingly aesthetically conscious Egyptians used kohl as early as 5,000 years ago—or at least an early version of it. They emphasized their eyes with black color made from natural substances and believed it could protect them from the desert sun and dusty winds. They believed kohl even protected them from sinister glances and eye diseases. In India, too, it was a central element of beauty rituals for centuries. On a spiritual level, makeup, always made from natural ingredients such as charcoal and herbs, also represented a deep connection to nature and culture.
- Ancient beginnings (c. 3100 BC): The use of kohl can be traced back to ancient Egypt, where it was used to enhance the eyes and protect against eye infections and harmful environmental influences.
- Ancient India (c. 500 BC): The black liner around the eyes was not only aesthetic. The inhabitants of the subcontinent also attributed a deeper cultural and spiritual significance to the kohl eyeliner.
- Middle Ages (c. 9th century AD): Kajal conquered many parts of the world, from Persia and North Africa to the Mediterranean. Production techniques and ingredients varied.
- Modern reinterpretation (20th century): The kohl pencil conquers the entire Western world and becomes also known as eyeliner: Its use as an eye pencil for various make-up styles expanded the possibilities of the cosmetic element.
With the advent of modernity, eyeliner (kohl) also conquered new spheres. The development of ever-improving textures and pencils enabled precise and versatile applications. This opened up a new world of makeup creativity for women and men – beyond eyeliner or simply black-lined eyes. It goes without saying that classic black no longer dominates this segment, but a wealth of kohl colors is now available. While long and intensive experiments with synthetic ingredients have been conducted for this purpose, this diversity has long since become a matter of course in natural cosmetics. At UND GRETEL, the kohl is also vegan, at least in most versions.
Whether buying eyeliner or kohl – the main thing is skin-loving and great colors
Today's market for kohl makeup offers the perfect tool for every occasion. HOLT, as a natural kohl, even offers what the Egyptians would have dreamed of: plant-based ingredients that not only enhance your appearance, but also provide nourishing benefits for the sensitive skin around your eyes. HOLT contains, among other ingredients, jojoba wax, which adapts to the skin's natural lipid film, preventing dryness. Macadamia nut oil, a plant-based active ingredient particularly sought after for chapped, dry, and sensitive skin, provides additional moisture for this natural cosmetic kohl. Mango butter from the seed of the mango fruit, along with numerous vitamins and minerals, adds an extra radiance to the skin. Also included: meadowfoam, whose oil also provides significant moisture and has an anti-aging effect on the skin. All of this follows the philosophy of UND GRETEL: to always be uncompromisingly skin-loving, no matter which cream, which lipstick, which eyeliner you want to buy.
The best kohl pencil, as always, depends largely on individual preferences and the look the eyeliner is intended to create. Whether it should only function as kohl, for example, or, like HOLT, can also be part of a more unusual make-up on the eyes... or even on the lips, as described. HOLT's seven shades ensure that there is something for every type of eye make-up. Black kohl is, of course, a classic, but there are also shades of gray and brown, as well as versions in gold, silver, and bronze. The metallic shades are, of course, natural born winners when things need to get a little more unusual with the eyes - parties, clubbing, and festivals say hello. More classic versions, such as gray kohl, should therefore never be missing from your make-up arsenal: they give absolute emphasis to the eye color by framing the lash lines, and as softly blended eyeliners above and below the eyes, they bring out the entire center of the face.
