So, I'm imagining myself winking at myself. What does age matter? Ultimately, it's about feeling good in your own skin. And yet, we all appreciate the little tricks we can use, either in everyday life or on special occasions, to look as if we've had a good night's sleep, had a three-week vacation, and regularly booked massages for relaxation. Because they do exist – the makeup tips that visually rejuvenate us. I interviewed our makeup artists and compiled the 9 best tips for you:
No.1: Coffee & Concealer = hello wake up!
Concealer is your friend. Admittedly, this tip is a bit too obvious, but it's also one of the best. Dark circles under the eyes, which make us look tired and thus less youthful, have found their ultimate enemy in concealer—at least visually. And even though we'd rather not see them at all, it's worth taking a closer look: If your shadows are more bluish, you can best balance them out with pink pigments, like in our TUNKAL concealer in the shade PORCELAIN 01 .
Dark circles under the eyes that appear dark brown or gray can be better concealed with yellowish-beige color pigments, like our TUNKAL in the shade LEIGHT BEIGE 02. By the way: When applied under the eyebrows, concealer works like a cup of coffee for your eyes at 6 a.m. on a Monday morning. We promise! It brightens the skin and makes it more radiant. Your eyes will immediately appear more awake.
No.2: Have a good nose – for more youth
If you already have your concealer handy, apply it directly to your nasolabial fold. This is the crease that runs from the side of your nose to the corner of your mouth. This crease increases with age. This is completely normal. The flexible collagen and elastin fibers that make our skin so beautifully plump and supple become sluggish with age and begin to break down with every facial expression.
But that doesn't mean we should suddenly stop laughing; it makes life so much more beautiful. Instead, simply take some concealer, dab it along the nasolabial fold, and gently pat it in with your finger. This way, the shadow cast by the crease will appear less pronounced and your face will instantly appear lifted.
No.3: It's Prime Time
As much as we love wrinkles on our faces—they speak of moments of happiness, brooding, and life itself—there are also times when we want to minimize them a little. Then it's prime time! The best preparation for youthful-looking makeup is a primer. It acts as a light wrinkle filler and visually smooths the face. Our Translucent Compact Powder ILGE is like a Photoshop effect. Whether applied later as a finish or as a primer—ILGE acts like a soft focus.
No.4: Youthful apple cheeks
Please don't be alarmed if we now bring the color pink into play. Applied very lightly to your cheeks, it imitates the subtle blush of young skin that normally shines through due to good circulation. So, now it's time to smile brightly. This will help you see where your cheeks peak and where the "blush hollow" forms under each cheek. That's where you apply your blush.
Our pro tip: You can apply lipstick like our TAGAROT in PINK BLOSSOM 01 to your cheeks underneath your foundation and blend it in. Applying foundation over the top will give your cheeks a particularly natural blush. It'll look as if your cheeks have a good flush of color. If pink is a bit too bold for you, our TAGAROT shades ROSÉ 01 or APRICOT 02 are also perfect for a refreshing cheek boost.
No.5: Shine bright like your lipstick
Or to put it more bluntly: The trick is to use light lipstick colors rather than too dark ones. Because with age, lips lose volume. Conversely, this means full lips represent youth. You get the best lip boost by using a shiny gloss, like our shimmering shades from KNUTZEN . The naturally shiny shimmer particles reflect the light and make your lips appear fuller.
But choosing the right color for your lip gloss or lipstick can also give you a visual boost of youth. Our advice: Bold reds and browns make your lips appear thinner. Lighter pink or apricot shades, on the other hand, appear much fresher. But hey—if you like bold reds, wear them. Because you decide what's beautiful!
Regardless of the lipstick color, there's also a trick: line your lip lines beforehand with a colorless or matching lip liner. Alternatively, you can also apply a little concealer around your lip line. This will prevent the lipstick color from bleeding into the wrinkles and give the contour a youthful appearance.
No.6: The highlighter effect
Less is more – or: Less matte powder is more of a visual fountain of youth. That doesn't mean you have to skip powder altogether. But too much matte powder settles into fine lines and accentuates them. The trick is to leave small patches of powder free. Or you can add extra little highlights with a light highlighter – the optimal spots for this are directly on the cheeks and under the brows. There, shimmer actually has a rejuvenating effect, making the cheeks appear more voluminous and the eyes appear larger. This way, you and your complexion can radiate.
No.7: Oh my goodness!
Full brows not only frame your face, they also make you look younger. Thick, bushy, and unplucked eyebrows are reminiscent of the wildness of youth. Narrow, patchy, and over-plucked eyebrows, on the other hand, make you look older and can unintentionally appear unfriendly. No wonder Disney artists tend to prefer thin brows for the faces of villains. I can picture Ursula the sea witch from Ariel or Cruella from 101 Dalmatians right in my mind. So: put the tweezers aside, and you can easily fill in your brows with an eyebrow pencil like our SPRUSSE or a brow gel like our FROH .
Our tip: Professionals first brush bare brows downward toward the eye and then outline the hairs in the direction of growth with an eyebrow pencil. Then, you can use the SPRUSSE brush to brush the hairs back up into shape. This gives the brows a particularly natural look. Afterward, you can "comb" through them with a tinted brow gel like FROH to keep them in top shape.
If you're still unsure about applying eyebrow makeup, you can simply use a tinted brow gel. With just a few strokes, your brows will appear fuller and lightly tinted.
No.8: Fine Lining – the extra fine eyeliner
Eyelashes grow a little sparser over the years. Instead of using a mostly hormonal eyelash serum, which is supposed to thicken your lashes, you can simply use a kohl pencil. Drawn very finely along the lash line or even placed selectively between the individual hairs, a Eye Pencil like HOLT Your eyelashes optically. Experienced users can also use a Liquid eyeliner like TINCTE Try it. The only important thing is: it has to be a fine eyeliner.
No.9: No mascara – no me
Next to concealer, mascara has the greatest wake-up effect. This is because mascara visually opens the eyes. Deep black mascara like our WINT in the shade DARKEST BLACK 01 produces the greatest effect, while brown mascara like the shade CHESTNUT 02 is ideal for a softer look.
