Flawless makeup.

In the complexion test: Foundation brush vs. fingers
An evenly applied foundation is the foundation for any perfect makeup look. Yes, you can use your fingers for most types of products. Nevertheless, we decided to develop two professional foundation brushes to make a difference (and not only) in the results. Because investing in a good foundation brush is always worth it and will revolutionize your daily makeup routine.
Here are the advantages of our two foundation brushes in brief: One is flat and the best brush for liquid foundation, and the other is FOUNDATION BRUSH No. 2 with its firm, rounded short bristles, ideal if you want to use your favorite MILTE STICK . This rounded foundation brush (also called a buffing brush) with its slightly denser brush head is excellent for blending. It enables medium to full coverage and ensures an even finish without visible brush strokes. The flat FOUNDATION BRUSH No. 8 enables precise and even application; its bonded bristles pick up any type of foundation well and economically and distribute it smoothly and evenly. Visible streaks or uneven patches are avoided.
The vegan and high-quality FOUNDATION BRUSHES, especially the No. 8 as a flat Liquid Foundation Brush, are versatile in use, sustainable and suitable for basically all textures.
Foundation, applied ecologically valuable
Unlike applying foundation with your fingers, which can easily result in patchy or streaky results, a foundation brush creates a flawless base for makeup. It evens out your skin tone and perfectly conceals any redness or imperfections. A flat liquid foundation brush better reaches and blends more precisely in hard-to-reach areas of the face—especially the corners of the eyes, around the nose, and along the hairline, where fingers are often less convenient. This way, all areas of the face benefit evenly, without any unsightly transitions. For spot-touching on particularly noticeable areas, you can then use your little finger to dab on a little extra product.
Less product waste (also contributing to environmental protection) would be another benefit of a foundation brush. The longer, soft bristles of the flat FOUNDATION BRUSH 8 —soft and with a gentle shine—are made from 100% recycled plastic and absorb significantly less product than fingers or a makeup blender. This way, just the right amount ends up on the face, and your favorite MULTI-STICK doesn't have to be replaced as often. Of course, you can also extend the lifespan of your BEST CC CREAM with this brush. Especially with high-quality organic products, the investment in a high-quality foundation brush quickly pays for itself.
Another argument for using a foundation brush is the professional finish. A high-quality foundation brush blends the product precisely and seamlessly into the skin, creating an even and often described as "airbrush-like" finish. The finish typically offers more coverage, and the complexion appears smoother and flawless. The even distribution visually minimizes pores and fine lines, giving a professional-looking result that lasts longer.
It's often more difficult to achieve a similarly even result with your fingers. While this method of applying foundation often results in a more natural, lighter finish because the warmth of your fingers works the product beautifully into the skin, the coverage tends to be lower, and it can be more difficult to achieve a completely even, streak-free result, especially with thicker formulations. Sure, a light and liquid foundation bonds the warmth of your fingers more intensively with the skin's surface. But it also causes the product to dry faster, making optimal blending less possible. This is where a good foundation brush definitely scores points. Pro tip: After using the brush, warm both palms by rubbing them together and place them flat against your face, applying gentle pressure. This way, you benefit from the additional warming effect while avoiding uneven finishes. Bottom line: For a natural everyday look, using your fingers may be sufficient. However, if you have a special occasion or want more coverage, a professional foundation brush should do the job.
Last but not least, using a foundation brush also offers advantages in terms of hygiene. A clean brush minimizes the transfer of germs, oils, or environmental contaminants from your fingers to your skin, which can potentially trigger blemishes. Washing your hands before applying makeup is obviously an important step in your makeup routine, but it can't always be done (keyword: touch-ups on the go...). Regular and proper cleaning of your foundation brush is all the more important to maintain hygiene. Experts recommend cleaning used makeup brushes at least once a week with mild shampoo or a special brush cleaner.
AND HERE'S HOW IT WORKS:
-
Step 1: Preparation: The face should be well cleansed and moisturized, for which the trio of SCHUM cleansing foam, PUR hyaluronic acid serum and the multi-peptide cream ZART is ideal.
- Step 2: Apply foundation: Prepare the desired shade of MILTE STICK or apply a small amount of liquid foundation to the back of your hand or a palette. This avoids direct contact between the packaging and the foundation brush, minimizing the risk of product contamination. Lightly dip the foundation brush into the desired amount or remove it from the stick – but be careful not to apply too much at once.
-
Step 3: Application: From the center line of the face, sweep the brush outwards over the forehead, nose, chin and cheeks, dabbing the product of your choice onto the skin in several even dabs.
- Step 4: Blend: Then blend the foundation with sweeping or circular motions from the center of the eye to the hairline and neck. Ensure smooth transitions to avoid harsh edges. The flat FOUNDATION BRUSH 8 is particularly well-suited for these sweeping motions.
- Step 5: Repeat if necessary: For additional coverage, apply another thin layer immediately and blend again.
Tips from makeup professionals
- Choose the right brush: High-quality synthetic bristles that are densely packed yet soft against the skin are the best choice. Synthetic bristles are better suited for liquid foundations than natural bristles, which generally absorb less product.
- Less is more: Always start with a small amount of product and gradually build up the coverage as needed.
- Clean all brushes regularly: Weekly cleaning with a mild shampoo such as our Foaming Shampoo Bar VEST or a special brush cleaner keeps the foundation brush hygienically clean and ensures optimal and skin-healthy application results.
- Pay attention to the technique: Gently pat the product onto the skin and blend carefully. Applying too much pressure with the brush can result in streaks.
- Experiments work wonders: Trial runs are a good idea, especially for beginners. With a little time and patience, you can easily find out which type of brush and application technique works best for your skin condition and your favorite product.
