Gua Sha: The stone for glow and health
Gua Sha therapy is a very ancient Chinese technique for promoting health, longevity, and beauty. It is originally rooted in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), but has become established in Western countries, particularly in skin care. Gua Sha translates as "scraping" and refers less to the stone itself than to the facial massage technique: Using the specially shaped Gua Sha stone, for which UND GRETEL deliberately chose the white semi-precious stone howlite rather than jade or rose quartz, one gently scrapes the skin in a specific sequence and for a specific duration.
A process that has proven extremely beneficial for the well-being of the largest human organ. Its microcirculation and blood flow are regularly stimulated through scraping massage. This improves the elasticity of all tissues and can reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Toxins are flushed out of the tissues, which overall contributes to a radiant, healthy, and youthful-looking complexion. Furthermore, massage with a gua sha stone has the effect of reducing tension in the deeper muscles. The facial radiance becomes more relaxed and positive.
The individual steps for an effective Gua Sha massage are easy to follow. Naturally, the skin should be thoroughly cleansed before using the lifting Gua Sha stone, so that a cosmetic product of your choice can be applied afterwards. This product not only acts as a lubricant but also acts as a lubricant. The skin should be supple during the massage, but should not be pulled dry. MINNE facial oil and the nourishing moisturizing cream ZART are ideal for this: Since the pressure massage with the Gua Sha tool increases blood flow to the skin, it optimally absorbs the plant-based ingredients of the natural cosmetics. The stone is moved over all areas of the face with gentle pressure. The differently shaped sides of the stone are used for specific areas and effects. For example, the long, smooth edge of the Gua Sha stone is moved with gentle stroking movements along the cheekbones to strengthen the contours and reduce puffiness. The more jagged side can be used to relieve tension in the neck and shoulder area or to tighten the jawline and forehead.
Netflix with beauty benefits, anyone? Then place the stone and cosmetics next to the couch and perform the facial massage several times a week for optimal results. Each movement is performed several times in one direction, adjusting the pressure according to personal preference. The total duration of a Gua Sha treatment can vary according to preference, but it should generally last about five to ten minutes.
Step by step to the Gua Sha Glow
- To prepare, cleanse your face with the gently nourishing REINE facial oil. To thoroughly remove all impurities, use the REINE organic cotton facial cloth .
- Then, depending on your preference and discretion, apply MINNE Facial Oil or ZART Moisturizing Cream to prepare the skin for the Gua Sha treatment and ensure the stone glides smoothly. For even more effective use of the Gua Sha stone, apply PUR Multi-Hyaluronic Serum to the skin during the treatment. This provides optimal moisture and anti-aging benefits.
- Starting at the chin, always place the gua sha stone at a 45-degree angle to the skin and move it in gentle, upward strokes along the jawline to the ears. You can use either the split side or any other side of the stone. Repeat this motion about 5 to 7 times on each side of the face.
- Then, using the smooth edge of the Gua Sha stone, continue massaging the cheeks, starting at the sides of the nose and moving upward along the cheekbones to the temples. Repeat each movement 5 to 7 times to keep the muscles in the center of the face active: This preserves contours, reduces puffiness, and slows down sagging tissue.
- For the forehead, the jagged or short side of the stone is used to firm this area and relieve tension. From the center of the forehead, stroke the Gua Sha stone upwards several times in horizontal motions, then slowly repeat this step across the entire forehead, working outward toward the temples. The stimulated circulation revitalizes the skin tissue, can have a firming and relaxing effect, and can prevent the early development of frown lines on the eyebrows.
- The eye area should be treated more carefully and gently. To do this, use the smooth edge of the Gua Sha stone and gently stroke upwards along the area below the eyebrows to reduce puffiness. Only perform these strokes two to three times to avoid irritating the delicate skin.
- Finally, the Gua Sha massage should be completed with gentle, circular movements over the neck muscles and décolleté. This relieves tension in the muscles there, which sometimes extend to the eye and forehead area. This step also relaxes the face deeply.
- After each use, the Gua Sha stone should be thoroughly cleaned and hygienic with lukewarm water and a mild cleanser such as VEST Solid Shampoo. Regular facial massage with the stone maximizes the benefits of Gua Sha therapy: radiant, refreshed skin—and a relaxing wellness meditation with each use.
Why a Gua Sha stone made of howlite?
Howlite, named after mineralogist Henry How, is a naturally occurring mineral often used in gua sha stones. Its benefits include several benefits. The mineral's natural cooling properties can help reduce inflammation and reduce facial swelling. During a gua sha massage, the cooling effect can help soothe the skin and minimize redness. Howlite is also thought to promote cell regeneration. When used in a gua sha treatment, howlite may promote skin renewal and support the regeneration of healthy skin.
Howlite is also said to have stress-reducing effects. Using it as a Gua Sha stone can release tension in the face and reduce stress. This benefits both the skin and the mind. Spiritually, howlite is also said to help ward off negative energies and promote a feeling of peace and serenity. With its balancing energy, it is considered a calming meditation stone and helps practitioners focus the mind. Its individual veins are interpreted as intrusive thoughts that can be recognized and left behind. Some even place a howlite under their pillow to promote serenity and free themselves from disturbing thoughts. All attributed attributes are based on personal experience, traditions, and beliefs and are not scientifically proven.
A sustainable Gua Sha stone
As a naturally occurring mineral, howlite is relatively abundant in nature. This means it can be mined without significant exploitation of natural resources or environmental damage. This availability helps reduce pressure on other, rarer minerals that may be more vulnerable to overexploitation. The extraction and processing of howlite generally has a low environmental impact compared to some other mining activities. It is found in relatively shallow deposits worldwide and can therefore be extracted using less invasive methods that minimize disruption to ecosystems.
Howlite is a soft stone and can therefore scratch. Its calcareous structure also makes it susceptible to chemical cleaning agents, acidic sweat, and damage from sand and dust. To clean howlite gua sha stones, lukewarm, slightly soapy water and a soft cloth (preferably cotton) are ideal. Rinse thoroughly to remove residue and pat dry. To reduce the risk of damage, the howlite should be wrapped in a soft cloth and stored in a box or bag. If you purchase a gua sha from UND GRETEL, it will be delivered in a sustainable folding box.
